I have 2 versions of this great song which are some of my very favorites. Bill Evans Complete Village Vanguard 1961, and Keith Jarrett‘s 2007 My Foolish Heart 3 CD set. It is interesting to listen to these 2 versions by 2 of the greatest jazz pianist’s back to back. Each one is special. Keith starts out soloing and then the bass and drums kick in… STUNNING. I have one suggestion…TURN UP THE VOLUME.
Keith Jarrett and his Trio. I read somewhere that Keiths trio was the best trio playing today. I have to concur. I immediately logged on to Youtube and punched in Keith Jarrett Trio and several clips from his performances appeared. After watching I started collecting his CD’s and his music takes up about 30% of my listening time. I have never paid much attention to this particular format, but his music lead me to discover other classic Trios. Like Bill Evans Trio and Oscar Peterson Trio.
Recently I purchased Keith Jarretts “My Foolish Heart” double CD set and “Setting Standards” 3 CD set both new this year. My next purchase will be Bill Evans Complete Village Vanguard Recordings 1961 “Live”.
I have been listening to Jazz for over 25 years. If you are new to this genre it can be hard to know who’s who and to understand what you like. One easy way I suggest is you simply log on to Pandora Radio and create a station by simply imputing a name of an artist like; Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, Clifford Brown and Max Roach. Etc. Pandora will not only play selections from that artist or group but will play other musicians who share somewhat the same sound.
Happy Listening, Dave
