Happy Birthday to legendary Jimmy Cobb, He played with Miles Davis on the famous album “Kind Of Blue” in fact he is the last surviving member from that group and was Miles’s drummer on several important albums, “Live at Carnegie Hall”, “Live at the Blackhawk”, “Sketches of Spain”, “Someday My Prince Will Come”, “Porgy and Bess”, and “Sorcerer”. In the day of great jazz, Jimmy Cobb was in high demand and worked with some top names in jazz, Bill Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Billy Holiday, Stan Getz and many more. He won the NEA Jazzmaster award for 2009. Today his ” So What ” band is touring and playing in tribute to the 50th. anniversary of the “Kind of Blue” album. Jimmy Cobb’s 2009 “Jazz in the Key of Blue” album with Roy Hargrove, Russell Malone, and John Webber is some fine jazz and worthy of any jazz library.
