“His approach to the Bass…It was a beautiful thing to see…He was a constant inspiration”. – Bill Evans.

Scott Lafaro

During his short life Scott Lafaro developed into an essential bass player. Along with Charlie Haden and Charles Mingus everyone wanted to record with him. He was with Buddy Morrow’s band (1955-1956), toured with Chet Baker (1956-1957), and worked during the next few years with Ira Sullivan, Barney Kessel, Cal Tjader, and Benny Goodman, among others. His association with Bill Evans in 1959 and their Trio along with drummer Paul Motion set a new standard among modern jazz trio’s. The 1961 classic Bill Evans Complete Village Vanguard set is some of the most incredible music to ever hear, shortly after this recording the 25 year old bassist was killed in an automobile crash. The world lost an incredible artist.
