Martial Solal

Martial Solal was born in Algiers in 1927. In his early career he played with the great Django Reinhardt on the Paris Jazz scene in 1953’s Django REINHARDT et son Quintette de Hot Club de France. He also recorded with Lucky Thompson, Lee Konitz, Sidney Betchet, and Stan Getz. The French pianist is a master of post-bop improvisation. His new 2008 CamJazz label Longitude CD is well worth purchasing. He also is a very gifted sound track composer as in his 2003 album A Bout de Souffle. I like his style of  playing , kinda of a thinking mans Jazz pianist.  Check out his discography.
